How not to buy a used car!

So the weekend is suppose to be fun, relaxing, a short break away from work. but geez, it was a nightmare for me. Late at night on the recent weekend, I went to test drive a used car. I contacted the 2nd owner of a SUV on craigslist, and within an hour, got a call back to check out the vehicle. The owner said the SUV is pretty beat up, but it still runs. It looks great on Craigslist so wth right?
Its 8pm, I meet up the owner, and see that the car is totally beat up. It's painted with like house painting all over. I hop in, take it for a test drive, and notice a nasty odor inside, the top panel is all missing, and there's this big crack on the right side of the door. I asked the owner if the car has ever been in an accident. He said no. uh huh.... after the test drive, I told the owner, thanks, and jammed.
While driving in my car back home which is over an hour away, I realized that the top panel of the car is stripped maybe because the top part of the car was welded on from a part from the junk yard. But why? ... Because the cars been in a roll over. The car turned over in an accident, the top collapsed, and the owner had to cut the top of the car off and replace it with a used one from the junk yard that didn't have a top panel. And the car had to be repainted all over on the outside to cover up the 2 colors from the 2 parts, and hide all the scratch/dent marks.
And the odor....if the car turned over and the roof of the car collapsed, then maybe...the 1st owner of the car and the passengers died...OMG! I'm driving home in the middle of the night, very few cars are on the freeway, and now I'm freaking out about a ghost following me from the SUV back to my car! I keep looking at my rear view mirror hoping to not see a lady, and I'm freaking out! Got home, everythings okay. One of the most shitty weekend ever! done.

@Alan: The ride back home was super creepy. When I’m sleepy, I see really weird stuff. When I drove back from Mammoth Mountain, I was falling asleep on the highway, and I’d see people and cars that weren’t there.
