Higher compensation, less skill

suit

My mate has been doing some consulting/contract work and he got to partner with few other contractors together on a project. He soon found out that the other contractor was charging 75% more than he was charging, while he often had to follow up and correct the other contractor's work. What I learn from this is that you can make more money as a contractor with less skill compared to a full time job.

In a full time hiring process, you are being interviewed of your qualification. Most often (with few rare case) the interviewer is well aware of the qualification they are looking for and will recognize you deficiency if any. However as a consultant/contractor, your client is often in the dark about the qualification they are asking for, they rarely have the knowledge to tell whether one qualifies or not. And often enough, they assume that the more the person charges, the more skilled and experienced the person is. Which in my friend's case, it wasn't true.
